Would You Rather Travel to the Past or the Future?

People have long been interested in traveling through time. Four out of 10 Americans think time travel could one day be possible. That’s according to a 2021 poll. But which would be better: visiting the past or the future?

Some people say they’d love to go back in time. You could come face-to-face with a dinosaur or meet famous people in history. Others would want to relive fun events in their own lives.

But some people think traveling to the future would be more exciting. You could see if humans live on Mars—and maybe even visit it yourself. Travelers to the future might also learn about cures for diseases that exist today.

Here’s what two of our readers say.

If I could travel to the past, I’d bring scientists information they didn’t have yet. Then they could stop bad things from happening today. Plus, I’d love to get to meet my parents when they were my age. Traveling to the past would also allow people to relive favorite memories. I’d go back to our 2019 family vacation to Canada. Then I could visit Niagara Falls again!

Visiting the future would allow me to find out everything that will happen ahead of time. Then I could prepare myself. Traveling to the future could also save lives. I love animals. So I’d go to a time when scientists have figured out how to stop certain animals from dying out. I’d take their ideas back with me to the present.
