I Helped Others By Reading!

Amara recently visited Pakistan.

Reading books is really fun. It’s even better when you read with a goal. Last year, I started a read-a-thon. That’s when you read as many books as you can to raise money for a cause.

I wanted to help people living in Pakistan, a country in Asia. When I read the news last year, I learned that Pakistan had really bad flooding. Some people didn’t have water to drink, food, or shelter.

I wanted to send help. So I came up with the idea for my read-a-thon. My parents helped me choose the books to read. Then my family and friends donated money to my cause of helping people in Pakistan.

My teacher and librarian also encouraged me along the way by spreading the word about it. Soon more people donated!

Reaching My Goal

My goal was to read 50 pages every day for a month. It wasn’t easy. Reading those pages and doing my homework was challenging. But I did it!

I completed my read-a-thon and raised $2,262. All the money was sent to people in need in Pakistan. I felt so happy that I had helped them.

Kids should read more books. Each one is an adventure. If you’re having a bad day, the right book can help you feel better. All you have to do is open it!

What cause is important to you? How would you help?
