First in Space
From his home state of Oklahoma to the International Space Station (ISS), John Herrington has been just about everywhere!
Herrington became the first Native American astronaut in space when he traveled to the ISS in 2002. As a member of the Chickasaw Nation, he honored his people by bringing eagle feathers to space with him.
Today, Herrington visits schools to get kids excited about space and reaching goals. “Do what you love in life,” he says. “That will take you where you need to go!”
