Do you know about National Cream- Filled Donut Day? Is National Best Friends Day on your calendar?
A group called National Today says Americans celebrate more than 1,500 special days each year. That includes national holidays like Thanksgiving and smaller ones like Respect Your Cat Day.
Some people argue that the smaller holidays make real ones less important. Others think these special days are fun. They can even raise awareness about major topics, like World Oceans Day.
Here’s what two of our readers think.
Do we need a day to honor weeds? That’s just one of the unnecessary holidays. Not only are these days useless, some are also made up by businesses to make money. Many encourage us to eat unhealthy foods, like National French Fry Day.
True holidays should be about history and family. Other days take away from that meaning.
These holidays give us a reason to celebrate every day. My family looks forward to National Pizza Day! If you want to ignore National Banana Split Day, it’s your choice. The day isn’t doing any harm.
I think it’s nice to celebrate things like dogs, siblings, and even ice cream once in a while. It helps families make memories and have fun.
