Ketanji Brown Jackson made history last month. She became the first Black woman to be named to the U.S. Supreme Court—the highest court in our country.
The Supreme Court has nine justices, or judges. They make important decisions on laws that can affect the entire country.
In February, President Joe Biden picked Jackson to replace a retiring justice. But it’s up to the U.S. Senate to confirm, or approve, the president’s pick. And in early April, the senators voted for Jackson to become a justice.
Before being confirmed, she said, “I can only hope that my life and career, my love of this country and the Constitution . . . will inspire future generations of Americans.”
