I Give Back!

Khloe Thompson, 13, of California tells how she’s giving back to her community—and helping other kids do it too.

Have you heard of GivingTuesday? It’s the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Many people spend the day helping people in need. In the past, I noticed that most projects were done by adults. I wanted to get kids involved. So last year, I started a group called GivingTuesdayKids.

To get started, I sent a message to the people who plan GivingTuesday. I asked if we could partner up. Then I reached out to other kids.

Last year, thousands of kids took part in GivingTuesdayKids. This year, it would be great to get to 1 million kids!

Want to help others on this special day? Think of something you love doing. I love sewing. When I was in fourth grade, I passed a homeless lady on my way to school each day. I sewed a tote bag for her and filled it with toiletries, like toothpaste and soap. Then I started a group called Khloe Kares. We make bags for homeless women in California. That’s how I spent last year on GivingTuesdayKids—and probably how I will spend the day this year!
