Ready, set, swim! Last month, scientists released 17 sea turtles into the Atlantic Ocean from a beach in Costa Rica. It was part of a threemonth race called Tour de Turtles. The race is a fun way for experts to study these reptiles.
The Great Turtle Race
Each fall, sea turtles migrate, or move from place to place. They swim from beaches where they laid eggs to ocean areas full of food. To see just how far some turtles go, scientists stuck tiny computers onto the shells of the 17 turtles. Satellites in space will track them. The turtle that travels the farthest wins!
